Sleep. And I'm damn tired...BUT THE BLOG MUST GO ON!!! (special note at the end)

AND NOW...for the wratchet line of the week...this is old but when I heard it I was like it should be in my blog. "Girl ya booty make me wanna put a ring on it / but since I can't / let me put my thing on it." Those might not be the exact lines but I'm mighty close and you and I both now...THAT'S WRATCHET. no explanation needed.

Last week I congratulated T.I. on not being wratchet since he married Tiny. The very next m effin day this negro get caught in a car with Mary Jane AND NAW that ain't a nickname for Tiny. They also had extacsy and meth...NOW...what about nigga you violate this parole u get ten years DON'T you understand. I swear you give black folks an inch and they take a mile......damn I sound like racist Tom. I'm just saying though....JUST WHY T.I? and then to put the nice lil black icing on the cake Fifty cent tweets blatantly to Tiny........Take the fall honey. ........ Tiny on the other hand tweeting that she don't even know what meth look like....YOU AIN'T GOTS TO LIE CRAIG!

I'm not going into detail on this cause quite frankly the coonery that is Souljah Boy makes me want to slap myself just to make sure I'm not dreaming. It's always a rude awakening that I'm not.....But....basically....Souljah boy was going in on Fabolous on twitter. ....who the fuck knows.....

Can I just say that I'm tired of looking at Lil Kim in the most random ass places looking crazy as hell? What is wrong with her? Please somebody! Show that woman some love!!!!

So before I even read that Taylor Swift is pissed at Mr.West I was tweeting (@gigster324) that I'm tired of K.West bitching about some situation that happened a year ago. Even Chris Brown pansy ass has moved on from his Ike Turner days and if anything he should still be kissing Rhianna's ass. But K.West wanna take it a step further and lick Swift's whole ass whole talking bout he wrote a beautiful apology song and if she won't accept it, he still gon perform it.......And Swift know...like you and I both know......he just trying to promote his album. #getoffthat

So Nicki's rationalization for the marriage is to give folks what they wanted...since they were talking about it in the blogs? And that she and Drake were bored? But...Drake is her lil brother? And she don't like boys.... "Fuck Nicki, she's fake." yeah I know...but the money ain't.

Did Jigga buy Beyonce an island...... balling like a bitch! But anyway......folks is saying that that whole lil verse after Hov says, Folks wanna know what my archilles heel is, Loooooooooove, I don't get enough of it...on the Monster song is a shot at Beanie Sigel. .............................. "YOU SHOULD GROW THE FUCK UP COME HER LEMME COACH YOU."

So I tried to stay away from this...BUT DAMMIT I'm opinionated and it's got to be said. Honestly, I was bout mad as ever that everyone was like like AWWWWWWWWWW Alicia you with Swizz...and ya'll having a baby...how cute! KNOWING full well that when the math is done ain't no way Alicia wasn't dating Swizz while he was still married. That.shit.is.trife. I don't give a hot gottdamn how much you like her music...I like the shit too BUT folks wanna throw rocks at Fantasia but Alicia ass did the same shit! AND then got the nerve to ask her step children to call her mama. Bitch you over stepped yo boundries. Imma need you to step back on over before you trip and kill yoself and yo ill legitimate child. Don't gimme that look! Cuz if this was an episode of Maury or Jerry and Alicia name was Shaquanna ya'll would be like damn...that bitch is trife. THAT'S ALL I'M SAYING. And yall wonder why Alicia been quiet all this time.

Thank you Oye for blogging! Thanks for not being wratchet!

I'm well aware that I might have some activists/feminists/ so on and so forth reading the blog...who just might be offended by my usage of both bitch and nigga. I'd like for you to keep in mind that the way YOU feel or may feel about it...isn't the way I may feel about it. I'm a strong believer in the motto, "words only have as much power as you give them." And if you don't get that...you know where to find me :) It's all in fun. I'm not tryna degrade no one. (believe it or not...I'm just as much of a feminist as you) I'm just tryna call out the wratchet.

¡KLASSIK - DEATH OF A BEATMAKER EP!

Congratulations goes to Klassik on his debut release brought to you by InkRed University!

Make sure you go to IAMKLASSIK.COM to get your free download!

WRATCHET MOMENT OF THE WEEK -CARMELO AND KAT STACKS

WATZ GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD? Classes start tomorrow ain't that bout a raggedy bitch at the food and liquor sto with two dollars in food stamps? BUT that means I'm blogging again.

My friends...this summer has faced, encountered, and endured much that is wratchet. You and I both know......from the Kat Stacks fiasco with Souljah boy, to singles.......that should've never been released, to the Dream leaving Christina Milan, to Fantasia attempting suicide. But I'm too lazy to go through all that lol so let's start anew, shall we?

Question though, why everytime we see Megan Good she leaving the club? Bitch what do you do now?

Welcome back Mr. West!!! I need to know why you heating the hell outta Diddy fo in ur tweets...just saying

Nicki Minaj released a statement that said her and Drake's wedding was anulled over the weekend...wait. So they did get married? I'm sorry that's wratchet. I do not approve.
Lowkey...I'm really digging R.Kelly's new single (which is a first for me) but he looked like Madea for the whole 4 minutes and 20 seconds that was that video. No, not Tyler Perry....Madea. and I stand by that. FIN.

Game got family drama. His brother is going in...cuz he says Game exploited his sister when he released a song that basically detailed how she got to prostituting....he blames it on his father molesting her when she was six :( And well basically his brother is saying that ain't kool. And I mean it's not. I'm not exactly sure why he thought that'd be okay to share with the world. But that's wratchet. We didn't need to know that -but if that's your way of dealing with it homie...mo power to ya

So.....Kat Stacks is irritating than a mofo. I'm tired of talking about which dude she was a cum bucket for next but......I mean this whole ya dig.....is just.

Carmelo tweets something like I'm giving 5g's to whoever give five fingers and a palm to Kat Stacks regular ass face. (...I'm improvised a lil on that but I'm close to what he did actually say...I think he called he said pigeon ass face.) Right, so.......Kat Stacks tweet something like don't you ever put me and my son's life in danger...... bitch you need to be slapped. If anything everytime u let a brother dip baby dip you threatened your child's life (before he was born) with a STD. You need to be slapped because you display no sense of self worth. You need to be slapped because the picture right next to the tweet is a damn near naked Kat Stacks in the shower...So ignant. ANYWAY she file a police report and ish and then Carmelo say his account got hacked....he ain't say that

Negro......don't but the nigga in renig! YOU AIN'T GOTS TO LIE CRAIG!!! Don't ner one body like Kat Stacks and if you stood by it....every brother she dun played in the game woulda threw a lil money at you to help you out. You got money homie, you can handle that. His wife was even like, Yeah bitch don't come near my man. I'd fuck a Kat Stacks up. (hood figga) I'm just saying.

Kat Stacks been wratchet. Carmelo you just got there.

UWHIPHOP BLOGGERS THAT AIN'T BLOGGING!!!!!........YOU WRATCHET! I'm going to have to ask you to step away from the ignorance and write sum'n. Thank you.

In case you haven't seen it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFiPANvxfDg

check out youtube channel hotdamnirock. I been gone for a minute (a good ass minute) but my laptop was broke (and this ish still ain't properly working...trife ass dinosaur ass broke ass computer) I promised myself I'd start blogging again when school started but I came across this ya dig...

http://www.afrothought.com/editorials/the-blacker-the-berry/

AND IT GOT MY PRESSURE UP!!! I had to walk away from the computer. Yung Berg I want to smack the constipated shit outta you. Honestly, I need to find every dude that's every punched yo ass and took yo chain...and shake they hand.

1. damn for the interviewer. You's a trife hoe. "What you get some bad pussy?" what kind of question is that for something as fucked as being internally racist? Because that's definitely the cause right? Homeboy took a dip on the deep end and was like...damn dark women must just carry around canyons for vaginas.

2. damn for the "water test." Negro, let me break this down for you. Dark women don't have to work extra hard to be beautiful (according to your definition of beautiful) -UGLY WOMEN DO. Just because she's light skin does not mean she's exempt from kinky hair, wearing false eyelashes, brown hair gel, ashiness. Naw none of that shawty lo. Everyone uses those things (well white women ain't got brown hair gel lol but they using mousse for hair hold) Why? Cuz they tryna add a lil something to themselves to look good for garbage like you.

This is not just in defense of dark skinned women (or women darker than YB cause ya know he sai he won't date anyone darker than him) This is in defense of beauty. She was described as the 2010 SuperHead, and while people who know me might immediately assume I would detest someone like her, I’ve long since moved past blaming women for reacting to an industry that continues to put them at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.

In short, she is Hip Hop’s creation. She was made in Hip Hop’s name. Once you get past the vulgarity, she is what Hip Hop values most: an attractive, bodacious woman who is promiscuous and isn’t afraid to admit it. Did you think T-Pain’s “I’m In Love With A Stripper” wouldn’t have any social implications?

Rappers have one vice and that’s women. Boasting about being “into having sex and not making love”, they’re letting these complete strangers into their intimate space and throwing them out like a used condom. And while rappers are used to treating women like single-serving entrees, there is an interesting caveat that occurs: these women deep down, don’t like it. Sure they smile and let you have your way with their body - an illusion that the rapper is in complete control - but these women become resentful and hellbent on revenge.

Kat Stacks is not a hero. She is a whore. But she is allowed into the King’s Palace, amongst his treasured things, and sleeps in his bed at night. No one can degrade her more than she has already degraded herself, which makes her a force to be reckoned with. She didn’t steal those numbers from a secret list, they were willfully given to her. And her only power is a captive audience and information gathered from pillow talk. Wanna get rid of her? Ignore her. But when you’re taught to pay attention to women like her, you just can’t, can you?

Capitalism teaches you to value profit over people, and she’s learned that already. And ten years from now, if we keep objectifying, hypersexualizing, and debasing women, their will be 100 Kat Stacks ten years from now, who don’t understand the difference between fame and notoriety (thanks Twitter).

And to my ladies, please don’t do womanhood “a favor” by attacking her. She is not the person responsible for lowering your value in society. Start small: stop fucking mouthing the lyrics to “Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Can’t Have None)” while you’re drunk at the club. Rappers feel the same way about you, that they do about her.

To the “victims”: Young Money, Bow Wow & whoever this broad openly exposes, how many women did you get to before you got to her? It was only a matter of time. Maybe if you treated your women with respect, they would respect you, and your privacy, back. But I feel no sympathy for your loss, real or imagined. And sending your goons to slap her will never get rid of her, because you made her. Hey, it’s only entertainment, right?

- Rocky Rivera

¡ OYE - THE SENTENCE !

NEW MUSIC from the UW Undergrad off the upcoming mixtape

¡ THE ROOTS FT. I didn't know where in the hell to start...how far to go back...and yeah...half the original insults I had no longer exist....but it's okay because somewhere in my heart I know that such and such was at some time wratchet

This week's wratchet line is bought to be by Ludacris on the song titled, "Sex Room." He says..."Feeling real high / but I'm hung real low / looking something like a tripod." Not only is that the least sexy image of a male possible....but really? Overexaggeration much? Is that what we STILL doing in 2010?

So...Why is Mary J Blige supposedly casted as Nina Simone. Somehow I don't see that working...I'm not gon lie though, my personal feelings for Nina makes her like an untouchable...Like Aaliyah's "One in a Million." (Who told Dream that was okay... I mean it ain't terrible and I see what he was getting at but too much. TOOOOOO much.) And while we talkin' bout Mary, why that "Hood Love," shit? Hood love is ignant love. Them the mofo's that you hear at 1am bout to cut each others throat and at 3 am...............welp.

I feel like....a rant on that R. Kelly's "Pregnant" is unncessary. Especially when Mr. GetBack went innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Basically sums up my feelings. Check that blog SON! http://www.getbacknews.com/2010/05/getshocked-yeah-i-said-it-fuck-r-kelly.html

Ciara's "Ride" video has been unofficially banned. Folks say it's too much....it is. What happened to being suggestive????? These videos are too much like soft porn. A mafakuh resume look like...Singer/Actress/Pole dancer. I ain't tryna hate -home girl's got it, but why the whole world gotta see it, to get somebody to pay attention? (I'd say Janelle Monae is doing pretty well these days...just goes to show talent does still count for something!) I miss the 70's love music...Can I get Minnie Riperton one time fo da kids? (don't go making no kids though niggas. Get through college!)

Why was Slick Rick on the Monique show looking like like 160 pounds of ignant? This negro had a blinged out eye patch, microphone, and enough chains to jump double dutch wit. And then Biz was on there forgetting the lyrics to his most memorable songs. WRAT -CHET.

Chingy released a new single.....I kinda refuse to listen to it. And while on new music, I been trying to see that Ms. Chocolate ish from... what's that muppet name..........................Lil Jon.... cuz folks saying crunk is dead....is it really that different? Ya know I was just about to say I liked crunk but then I remembered that the Ying Yang twins showed up on my playlist today and I really had to question my taste in music

I heard this atrocity on Concreteloop.com and I was like wat in the mother fuck? It's called "Love on the Dancefloor." and you wanna know who it's from? Fizz and J Boog -yeah them lil niggas that once upon a time was in that shamble of a boy band B2K. 1. It sounds like "Spotlight," by Usher -but a tad more gay club banger 2. Fizz (formerly Lil Fizz -I tell you bout these rappers and dropping the damn prefixes and shit) CAN'T RAP to save his life. I bet Aretha Franklin can drop a hotter 16 than this nigga. 3. J Boog can't sing 4. You niggas been gone for a while ya'll coulda came back wit different names and nobody woulda gave a hot gottdamn. The fuck I look like talking bout the best new artists.....coming to you live...........J BOOG!!!! PhoneticONE has worked in the southside community doing Spoken Word/Hip Hop workshops for various youth groups and organizations (such as Upward Bound Vision Quest ran by the University of Minnesota) and has now moved on to Released his more prevalent project, Phonetic Phenom EP (Jan, 2009).

Now at 19, Andrew "Phonetic ONE" Thomas has shared the Stage with Minneapolis greats like Big Quarters, Eyedea and Abilities, Heiruspecs and Doomtree. MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlan) of UW-Madison is presently and has historically been a home for all students seeking a safe and explicitly anti-racist student organization. The University of Wisconsin-Madison has ordered them to evacuate their home since the early 1970's. Is this any suprise with the recent sudden loss of space for students and especially women and students of color (Wunk Sheek, Campus Women's Center)?

After sending MEChA back and forth and around and between adminstrators for months, they have finally appointed an official point person and this is the letter they presented to Provost Paul DeLuca. This is the ridiculous history of what they have been put through by the UW Adminstration and the organizations suggestions for moving forward. Yo, Im just keeping it real.

P.S.

PLEASE SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION TO HELP THE CAMPAIGN

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 4, 2010

Provost Paul DeLuca
150 Bascom Hall
500 Lincoln Dr
Madison, WI 53706

Dear Provost DeLuca,

In the early 1970’s, Chican@s at the University of Wisconsin-Madison fought hard for a space that would allow them to construct a self-determinant identity, both culturally and politically, within a predominantly white and racially hostile campus. This space, known today as the MEChA office, has existed throughout the years to not only accomplish its historical goals, but at the same time serving the Madison campus by exposing and educating the student body to cultures such as ours. For almost forty years, the MEChA office, located at 710 University Avenue #202, above Brother’s Bar, has maintained a legacy committed to creating an equitable and diverse campus climate.

Throughout the years, it has not been unusual to find past members wandering around the office, reminiscing over old pictures from as early as the 60’s. This space houses a large collection of artwork, books, and documents from past generations. This collection of work not only tells the story of the local MEChA chapter, but also the story of the Chican@ and minority communities of color within Madison. It is not rare to see within these well-preserved documents the immense amount of collaborations and solidarities amongst the communities of color within the Madison and campus community. The MEChA office, along with its rich history, has come to represent not only the Chican@ experience on the UW campus, but also a cross-cultural experience often denied within society.

Currently, the University of Wisconsin-Madison plans on tearing down the building where the MEChA office still stands and has stood for the past 37 years. The university plans on constructing a new building for the School of Music. It was not until recently that MEChA received a formal notice of eviction, with a vacating date of August 15, 2010. A combination of ambiguity and lack of communication with the University has kept MEChA in the shadows. We understand that the University’s response to fulfilling our space needs request has been to secure a small office cubicle at the Student Activity Center. However, this space is not suitable for our needs for various reasons, which will be outlined below.

As a university that promotes diversity and searches for ways to retain students of color, we feel that taking a space from us that provides these services without providing us with an equal, or at the very least, a similar replacement is unjust and pretentious. Additionally, we understand the larger space struggles on this growing campus. Accommodating multiple offices, individuals and groups is a difficult feat. However, spaces are being found to fulfill the many needs on campus. We ask that our needs be satisfied as well.

Safe spaces and retention services for students of color have historically been fought for by students of color, a good example of such struggles are the Chican@ Studies programs and departments around the nation. Likewise, our University shares its own history and struggle for equity by which the MEChA organization played and still plays a significant role towards the formation of our Chican@ Latin@ Studies program. Chican@ students, alongside other student organizations of color, fought and continue to fight endlessly for equitable conditions, and cultural autonomy. MEChA’s foundation is based in a plan for higher education; likewise MEChistas have historically fought alongside other student communities of color, in solidarity, to accomplish similar educational outcomes. We believe that our struggles, as students of color within a predominately white campus, are united and focused for equitable and culturally safe conditions.

MEChA has a deep history of solidarity, triumph, struggle, and loss with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We continue to experience the same repeated struggles for identity, cultural autonomy, and space as our brothers and sisters did in the past. As past administrations have done, they expect our organization to conform to the cultural preconditions established by the university. Once again, ironically, as we have done in the past, we will defend our need for equity by stating specific reasons by which MEChA needs a physical space that is adequate for the direct services we provide, and is a culturally sensitive space for the practice of our rituals, traditions, and expressions.

We would like to state specific reasons by which our organization needs a specific space that is adequate and culturally sensitive to our needs as chican@s and students of color respectively. A list follows:

A. As a Chican@, one identifies with indigenous roots and pre-Columbian history, while preserving our culture. With this identification come rituals and practices that would not be allowed in the Student Activity Center. Rituals such as burning copal, incense that is burned for indigenous ceremonies, sage, and sweet grass at our weekly meetings, sometimes daily, depending on what activities we have planned, will no longer be allowed in a space like the Student Activity Center. These rituals are important to us because it is a way to commemorate family, friends, and loved ones lost during cultural celebrations. It is the way we stay culturally grounded, in an environment that is unfamiliar with such celebration. These practices are sacred and need a space of solitude, respect, and liberty. Often within busy spaces like the Student Activity Center, we would be forced to compromise the sacredness of these specific cultural processes.

B. We responsibly provide direct services, as funded by the SSFC ASM grant fund. As direct services our organization has designed a specific cultural arts program by the name of CulturArte. This program is designed to enhance self-expression, empowerment, and self-identity through art, dance, poetry, and music. CulturArte is open to all students of diverse backgrounds including non-Chican@s from the University community interested in developing, strengthening and engaging in a self-growth process and self-expression through the arts. The MEChA office is a safe and recognizable space where community members feel free to practice cultural art forms innate to their self-identity. Within the MEChA office space, students are able to take part of the CulturArte program via workshops on el Son Jarocho, traditional music of Mexico, muralism, weaving, screen-printing, dance, or poetry.

a. Screen printing requires running water, and enough mobile space to accommodate entire student organizations wanting to partake of the workshops provided by MEChA, often workshops may hold 20-30 participants. This direct service also requires adequate space to store about $4000 dollars worth of paints, screens, clamps, tables, and printing paper/canvas/ materials.

b. Muralism as a culturally relevant pedagogy requires large walls, large canvas, and large amounts of people to collaborate in: 1. The design and process of the visual production and 2. The actual production of art as elaborated by painting, and drawing. Both of these processes require space for group work, messy interaction, and large spaces to host student groups for painting and instruction. We would also need storage for these materials. Often spray cans, and heavy toxic paints are used, such materials and activities would not be allowed within the Student Activities Center.

c. Son Jarocho workshops “el tallercito”. This program is a cultural workshop designed for students to learn how to play the folk music of el Son Jarocho, music of Veracruz, Mexico. This music carries with it elements of poetry, dance, music playing, and song. This program will invest in $5000 dollars worth of instruments that need a secure, and big enough space to store guitar looking instruments called Jaranas, large wooden stages (8x6ft) called tarimas, medium size box drums called cajones, and large finger piano drums called marimboles. El tallercito also serves entire student organizations and large groups of people. We would definitely need enough space to provide this service. Likewise, due to the cultural nature of this music, in its design from Mexico, the instruments are made for open areas (large plains and fields), thus making the instruments very loud in nature. The noise level produced by this music may not be adequate for the Student Activity Center. We risk being suppressed in limiting our cultural music and practice.

C. The Student Activity Center’s guidelines are culturally insensitive, as reviewed by our organization, they limit the use of the space, and actions are only allowed if approved by their rules. Most of our cultural practices are not allowed within this space. Within the Student Activity Center, we no longer will be able to build altars and hold ceremonies, which are sacred to our culture. We will no longer be able tell our stories through visual art. We will no longer be able to play and teach our music. With each of these sacrifices, we lose the ability to continually participate in and create our unique culture.

As Chican@s in a university that lacks diversity, we have found means to fulfill our cultural needs through MEChA. We are expected to adjust to a student body where over 90% of students do not share our identities. Our current and past members can all attest to the fact that the MEChA office has been more than a physical space to us within this sea of white that is Madison. As students with oppressed identities that are institutionally and socially ignored and disrespected, we know that MEChA provides necessary space: a familial space where we feel comfortable being ourselves; it is our safe space.

Through MEChA, students come together through self-determination and unity, while providing educational outreach to university students as a way for them to appreciate and respect our culture. The limitation of hours, noise levels, and accessibility forces us to give up some of the only connections to our culture. Limited hours will not allow us to access the building for our services. We become physically dependent on the Student Activity Center’s hours to provide services to our student body. Night ceremonies, shows, and art training are compromised, being that most of these events are held at night. Our direct services to the University of Wisconsin-Madison community, such as cultural music education, will automatically exceed the noise levels limited by the Student Activity Center. We are asking for a space to help contribute to a campus environment where all cultures are respected, and we believe MEChA is essential to the education of the larger student body.

We ask of you, if a “diverse university community” is what you strive for, then what will you do to provide a space, similar to our current space, that will help diversify the University of Wisconsin-Madison without requiring us to sacrifice our culture, identity, and beliefs?

In Solidarity,

Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlan (MEChA) de UW-Madison
710 University Ave #202
Madison, WI 53715

UWHIPHOP ARTISTS

Are you a UW artist? From banks and corporations to non-profits and universities, to prisons, weapons and drugs; what role do these institutions and industries have in making the poor stay poor, while making the rich get richer? This workshop also shows how the devaluation of traditional forms of self governance and self determination, has lead to the criminalization of entire sectors of society. Finally this presentation shares some indigenous strategies for self determination as guides for urban community (hood) liberation.

[Film: Xip Xop oaXaca]

The implications of conscious hip hop have reverberated around the world, from south east Asia, to Chile, to Palestine, to Oaxaca, Mexico. Hip Hop has proven itself to be a recurring primary path towards a positive recovery from the trauma inflicted by poverty, repression and social unrest. The indigenous people of Oaxaca have been in resistance to colonialism for over 500 years. In the summer of 2006 Oaxaca, Mexico a city of one million, erupted into a six month popular uprising against the extremely repressive governor, Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. The uprising was met with state violence, which left hundreds incarcerated, 26 dead, and an unknown amount of disappeared. 30+ years after the birth of Hip Hop, its influence as a tool of community liberation and community mental health, is evident in the streets of Oaxaca, Mexico. This film demonstrates that the taking back of identity, territory, and community through the 4 elements of hip hop culture, is alive and well today.

[About Simón Sedillo...]

Sedillo is a community rights defense organizer and film maker. He has spent the last 8 years documenting, producing and teaching community based video documentation in Mexico and the US. Through lectures, workshops, and short films, Sedillo breaks down the effects of neoliberalism, the North American Free Trade Agreement, and militarism on indigenous communities, immigrant communities, and communities of color in the US and Mexico. Through collaborative media projects, Sedillo’s work has contributed to a growing network of community based media production whose primary objective is to share, teach, and learn from one another, about community based media production and the collective construction of horizontal networks of community rights defense.

[Where & When:]
UW Presentation: Wednesday, May 5th, 2010
@ 7pm @ the MSC Satellite (717 W Johnson St)

Rainbow Bookstore Presentation: Friday, May 7th, 2010
7pm, 426 West Gilman Street

[Sponsored by]

UW-Madison MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlan)
Multicultural Student Coalition
Rainbow Bookstore
Madison InfoShop
Chican@ & Latin@ Studies Programa

VIDEO: Grynch - “My Volvo”

Fresh out the West Coast, Seattle's (and Ballard’s rap monarch) Grynch has released a video to what seems to have become his most popular song, an ode to his bucket—a 1986 Volvo 240 SL. Can somebody get this guy an endorsement deal?

The “my hooptie” song has been done since, well, ”My Hooptie”—but none have focused on a vehicle as dependable, safe, and so patentlyNorthwest-parent as “My Volvo”. Produced by young Tacoma producer Ill Pill, “Volvo” is no mere poppy fluke; this song to me contains some of Grynch’s best rhyming and most fluid flow he’s yet laid down. Grynch is preparing his next album, and even getting to work with some of his heroes (a collaboration with Warren G, a guy who inspired Grynch’s jazzy-everydude-in-Dickies persona, is already in the can as of last week).

WRATCHET MOMENT OF THE WEEK -DIDDY'S "APOLOGY"

Chappelle's show is on!!!! The Rick Jame's episode. (Shoulda never gave you niggas money!!!!)Dang I miss this show!

This week's wratchet line is bought to you again by Lil Wayne. I haven't exactly listened to a lot of new music, or new videos, this week but I will and then maybe I won't be calling Lil Wayne wratchet yet again but I was listening to a song I listen to all the time when I noticed that Lil Wayne said, "Too much champagne/now watch me spit it in them bitches face / in the morning I can tell you how them bitches taste." Now, I don't know about you BUT if anybody ever got the audacity to spit in my face, I SWEAR FO M&M's, it's gon take Jesus himself to come down and peel me off of that mofo cuz I swear all the nigga in me will........AND in other news I'm not sure why they would go with him afterwards. That is all.

I think it's fairly wratchet that there are fan groups on facebook questioning how all of T.I.'s finess ended up with Tiny.........now while that MAY be a legitimate question, I'd just like to say that the two seem to be very much in love. Tiny is down as hell and she seems like she'd do anything for Tip including wait through a prison sentence. Get of dey sack! Hell focus on the questionable partners you have!

Yay for Toni Braxton's triumphant return....not agreeing wit these fashion choices though. http://concreteloop.com/2010/04/spotted-toni-braxton-leaves-mr-chow-performs-make-my-heart-on-ellen#more-435332 that was probably designed for Rihanna.......

Usher's wife irks me. Like, she has nothing better to do but to repeatedly remind the world that she was once married to Raymond, WELL BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVO. That's about as interesting as knowing that Kat Stacks likes to get down to the nitty gritty with many...many many men. She was going the hell off calling Usher a bitchass nigga on her Twitter cause there was a rumor that he had knocked up another older woman and was engaged to her.....And her and the rumored woman were going back and forth like lil children.....just a mess. A BIG WRATCHET MESS.

Have you seen the rush card commercial from Russell Simmons? They're old, but everytime it's gets to the end where it's like, "Activate your Rush Card now and get up to $5.00" ......nigga that ain't an incentive. What in the mother f**k? UP to five dollars? Besides a good meal at most restaurants (Thank you Subway) what in the hell am I supposed to do with 5 dollars? Why is this so alluring? Are we that broke? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86weSql-5cI&feature=channel gotta love spoofs

Throw back wratchetness -Remy Ma shooting her ex-friend over some money. This is only news because ol' girl just decided to sue her. Um? Late much?

Did ya'll know John Legend was dating a white girl? LMAO No RACISM really. It's just one of those things I find funny --it's one of those stereotypes where ya wanna go that's not fair stop over generalizing but then every time ya turn around......it's like black folks and chicken. Ya wanna say that not every black person loves chicken but.......IT'S TRUE! Speaking of chicken, in an unrelated to hip hop fashion, if I see ner' one of ya'll eating one of those KFC double down ya diggs Imma smack you my damn self. That is the most ignant sandwhich known to mankind.

I don't like Diddy; he's like that one kid who thinks they're so much more important than they really are...and thinks people like him more than they really do. For those of you who watch The Office, he's the Dwight Shrute of the rap world; just a whole lot richer. So remember I was like...Diddy said other vodka taste like that R. Kelly water? (drip drip drip pee on you!) Well he issued an "apology" while sitting in a bathtub full of bubbles like this nigga's Twinkie Winky from the Teletubbies and just like...........basically.......I'm so sorry my ish is better than yours! Although he didn't come up with the stuff....he's just got his name on it and own half of the brand. I've never had this Ciroc, and I'm not saying whether that'll change soon or not (eh em...probably will) BUT Diddy please de-mount/un-mount/get off the damn high horse! Please stop subjecting us to such base levels of niggadom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7R-DW5hFV4

Shout out to Lil Romeo daddy doing peaceful thangs and what not for the kiddies. Thanks for not being wratchet.

P.S. to all my other uwhiphop bloggers, please keep posting, I don't wanna come back day after day and see diddy's ass or who ever else headlining my blog at the top of the ya digg. I do indeed read things that aren't wratchet. So don't make me call you out.....cuz you know I will.

One Be Lo at the Rathskellar!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MFa-n94zb3U/S9cDdM4MpxI/AAAAAAAAACk/RRE4bDp6bvU/s320/Screen+shot+2010-04-27+at+10.29.04+AM.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464840473045411602" />
This evening at the UW-Madison Memorial Union Rathskellar, One Be Lo will be performing a special set in celebration of two events on campus, the Hip Hop as a Movement Week and Islam Awareness Week. The highly regarded underground artist will be performing with Yin, an all female funk/soul band from Detroit that has carried on the legacy of the Motown sound.

The show will take place from 7pm-10pm (Tuesday, April 27).

One Be Lo has established himself as one of the most respected hip hop artists in the game for his creative and positive lyrics, matched with production deeply rooted in hip hop’s funk traditions. Originally a member of Binary Star out of Pontiac, Michigan, he has released five solo albums and has toured his show across the country for his dedicated fans.

This summer, One Be Lo will release his new LP called B.A.B.Y. (Being a Black Youth). The album has become a complete multimedia project, with a documentary and a book detailing his experiences as a youth amongst his peers, struggling to fit into society and the pressures of crime surrounding him.

Yin has become one of the most sought after bands for Detroit hip hop artists to work with, and are known for being able to adapt their sound to match just about any MC. One Be Lo has been developing his show with them for some time now, and the two acts will perform together as Double Lo 7. They are also the house band for Tuesday nights at the 5E Gallery, which has become the hot spot in the Motor City for hip hop open mics, regularly drawing artists like Invincible, 5 ELA and Monica Blaire to come out and show their skills.

Also appearing will be Big A, aka the Lebanon Don, whose first album “Conscious Gangsta” became an international hit in 2008, receiving play from the United States to Europe and Africa. Originally from war-torn South Lebanon, his songs are a reflection of his background growing up in this hostile environment, as well as his joy as now being one of the top MCs out of Detroit and getting to work with all his favorite artists. This will be Big A’s first performance in Wisconsin.

NEWS: National Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán opposes Arizona Senate Bill 1070

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán opposes Arizona Senate Bill 1070

SEATTLE, Washington (April 24, 2010) - As National Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (M.E.Ch.A.) we completely oppose the recent decisions made on Senate Bill 1070 by both legislative and Governor Jan Brewer of the state of Arizona. This bill will further suppress immigrants without dealing with the root of the current economic, cultural, and social crises.

This bill fosters an environment that excludes a specific population based on their cultural identity, national origin, and racial appearance. SB1070 is indistinguishable from the Jim Crow laws of the 19th and early 20th century, which intentionally created segregated, powerless, and dehumanized peoples. SB1070 fails to acknowledge this history by, yet again, fostering a second-class citizenry which it achieves through discriminatory race-based legislation and action.

As concerned members of this society and global citizens, the SB1070 is not only an infringement on people’s human rights but we believe it is also further deepening the already erupting tensions among the United States of America and the global community. Let it be known that, “Mexico also observes with concern the likelihood of negative effects that this measure…may have for the future development of friendship, commercial, touristic and cultural ties that have characterized the relationship between Mexico and Arizona for generations, particularly with the state of Sonora” (Statement of Mexico Embassy). In addition to Mexico’s concerns about the SB1070, we believe that the SB1070 can possibly lead the United States into a deeper international conflict with the global community.

The passing of SB1070 will further discriminate against communities of color regardless of documented status. This bill will not create a more secure Arizona instead it will legalize state violence and harassment in communities of color. The unethical privatization of prisons will use this law to fill and expand prisons in order to continue profiting off of the exploitation of our people. We recognize this as a direct attack; not only against undocumented people but also all those who do not share the sentiment of criminalizing people based on skin color.

This piece of legislation imposes fear and dehumanizes our communities. It also goes against life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness granted by the United States constitution and the universal declaration of human rights. According to article two in the universal declaration of human rights, “everyone is entitled to all the rights set forth in this declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.” According to article three, “everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”

As National M.E.Ch.A. we are aware that the state of Arizona has taken measures to ensure the rights of its people. Yet in this case, the Arizona state legislature and Governor Jan Brewer do not exemplify or reflect this benevolent action. Instead it violates civil rights and hinders itself in understanding of human rights as a state with the passing of SB1070.

Enacting this law has overlooked the diverse human struggles that all of our ancestors had to overcome in order to immigrate to this nation. We challenge you to ask yourself, "What struggle did my parents, grandparents, etc face in order to become citizens of the United States?" If the answer to this question is non-definitive then you have no basis for creating laws concerning the migration of people.

Furthermore, we feel that the great state of Arizona, while trying to be a leader and at the forefront of immigration and immigration reform, has taken a tremendous leap backwards when it comes to human and civil rights. The name of the game is called “Imagine.” The way it’s played is simple: we’ll envision recent happenings in the news, but then change them up a bit. Instead of envisioning white people as the main actors in the scenes we’ll conjure - the ones who are driving the action - we’ll envision black folks or other people of color instead. The object of the game is to imagine the public reaction to the events or incidents, if the main actors were of color, rather than white. Whoever gains the most insight into the workings of race in America, at the end of the game, wins.

So let’s begin.

Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters —the black protesters — spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn’t like were enforced by the government? Would these protester — these black protesters with guns — be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? What if they were Arab-Americans? Because, after all, that’s what happened recently when white gun enthusiasts descended upon the nation’s capital, arms in hand, and verbally announced their readiness to make war on the country’s political leaders if the need arose.

Imagine that white members of Congress, while walking to work, were surrounded by thousands of angry black people, one of whom proceeded to spit on one of those congressmen for not voting the way the black demonstrators desired. Would the protesters be seen as merely patriotic Americans voicing their opinions, or as an angry, potentially violent, and even insurrectionary mob? After all, this is what white Tea Party protesters did recently in Washington.

Imagine that a rap artist were to say, in reference to a white president: “He’s a piece of shit and I told him to suck on my machine gun.” Because that’s what rocker Ted Nugent said recently about President Obama.

Imagine that a prominent mainstream black political commentator had long employed an overt bigot as Executive Director of his organization, and that this bigot regularly participated in black separatist conferences, and once assaulted a white person while calling them by a racial slur. When that prominent black commentator and his sister — who also works for the organization — defended the bigot as a good guy who was misunderstood and “going through a tough time in his life” would anyone accept their excuse-making? Would that commentator still have a place on a mainstream network? Because that’s what happened in the real world, when Pat Buchanan employed as Executive Director of his group, America’s Cause, a blatant racist who did all these things, or at least their white equivalents: attending white separatist conferences and attacking a black woman while calling her the n-word.

Imagine that a black radio host were to suggest that the only way to get promoted in the administration of a white president is by “hating black people,” or that a prominent white person had only endorsed a white presidential candidate as an act of racial bonding, or blamed a white president for a fight on a school bus in which a black kid was jumped by two white kids, or said that he wouldn’t want to kill all conservatives, but rather, would like to leave just enough—“living fossils” as he called them—“so we will never forget what these people stood for.” After all, these are things that Rush Limbaugh has said, about Barack Obama’s administration, Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, a fight on a school bus in Belleville, Illinois in which two black kids beat up a white kid, and about liberals, generally.

Imagine that a black pastor, formerly a member of the U.S. military, were to declare, as part of his opposition to a white president’s policies, that he was ready to “suit up, get my gun, go to Washington, and do what they trained me to do.” This is, after all, what Pastor Stan Craig said recently at a Tea Party rally in Greenville, South Carolina.

Imagine a black radio talk show host gleefully predicting a revolution by people of color if the government continues to be dominated by the rich white men who have been “destroying” the country, or if said radio personality were to call Christians or Jews non-humans, or say that when it came to conservatives, the best solution would be to “hang ‘em high.” And what would happen to any congressional representative who praised that commentator for “speaking common sense” and likened his hate talk to “American values?” After all, those are among the things said by radio host and best-selling author Michael Savage, predicting white revolution in the face of multiculturalism, or said by Savage about Muslims and liberals, respectively. And it was Congressman Culbertson, from Texas, who praised Savage in that way, despite his hateful rhetoric.

Imagine a black political commentator suggesting that the only thing the guy who flew his plane into the Austin, Texas IRS building did wrong was not blowing up Fox News instead. This is, after all, what Anne Coulter said about Tim McVeigh, when she noted that his only mistake was not blowing up the New York Times.

Imagine that a popular black liberal website posted comments about the daughter of a white president, calling her “typical redneck trash,” or a “whore” whose mother entertains her by “making monkey sounds.” After all that’s comparable to what conservatives posted about Malia Obama on freerepublic.com last year, when they referred to her as “ghetto trash.”

Imagine that black protesters at a large political rally were walking around with signs calling for the lynching of their congressional enemies. Because that’s what white conservatives did last year, in reference to Democratic party leaders in Congress.

In other words, imagine that even one-third of the anger and vitriol currently being hurled at President Obama, by folks who are almost exclusively white, were being aimed, instead, at a white president, by people of color. How many whites viewing the anger, the hatred, the contempt for that white president would then wax eloquent about free speech, and the glories of democracy? And how many would be calling for further crackdowns on thuggish behavior, and investigations into the radical agendas of those same people of color?

To ask any of these questions is to answer them. Protest is only seen as fundamentally American when those who have long had the luxury of seeing themselves as prototypically American engage in it. When the dangerous and dark “other” does so, however, it isn’t viewed as normal or natural, let alone patriotic. Which is why Rush Limbaugh could say, this past week, that the Tea Parties are the first time since the Civil War that ordinary, common Americans stood up for their rights: a statement that erases the normalcy and “American-ness” of blacks in the civil rights struggle, not to mention women in the fight for suffrage and equality, working people in the fight for better working conditions, and LGBT folks as they struggle to be treated as full and equal human beings.

And this, my friends, is what white privilege is all about. The ability to threaten others, to engage in violent and incendiary rhetoric without consequence, to be viewed as patriotic and normal no matter what you do, and never to be feared and despised as people of color would be, if they tried to get away with half the shit we do, on a daily basis.

Game Over.

Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the U.S. Wise has spoken in 48 states, on over 400 college campuses, and to community groups around the nation. Wise has provided anti-racism training to teachers nationwide, and has trained physicians and medical industry professionals on how to combat racial inequities in health care.
