Thought I Knew -- Pete Rock's Soul Survivor Documentary

So today's edition is extremely special, as I was schooled myself this evening. Instead of doing a simple Q&A like I usually do, I'll just tell y'all what happened:

While trying to find some music to help aid my sleep cycle on YouTube, I decided to search Pete Rock's name. Pete Rock is one of the top 10 best producers (if not top 5) in the history of Hip-Hop, and his work heavily incorporates elements of jazz. Rock's style is exemplified by his extensive usage of horn samples in his work (see: Public Enemy's "Shut 'Em Down (Pete Rock Remix)" and my favorite Hip-Hop song of all time, Pete Rock & CL Smooth's "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)"). He's worked with everyone from Raekwon and Ghostface to Johnny Gill and Keyshia Cole to House of Pain and Heavy D & The Boyz.

Anyway, while I was searching for Pete Rock, I ended up inadvertently discovering a documentary about the making of his classic, out-of-print 1998 debut album "Soul Survivor," the existence of which I was completely unaware of. The guest list was essentially a who's who of top MCs, musicians, and vocalists from the late '90s: Method Man, Black Thought, Big Pun, Kool G Rap, Common, Noreaga, Sticky Fingaz, Loose Ends, Vinia Mojica, Beenie Man...everyone showed up for this record. It's easily one of my favorite albums ever.

These are the links to all five parts of the documentary. Enjoy!
